Today I’m participating in the A Word A Week Challenge. This week’s theme is “waiting”.  I encourage you to click on each photo to see a larger view. If you like what you see, please subscribe to this blog to receive updates of the new photos I post, usually 3 to 5 times a week.

This past Saturday, for whatever crazy reason I woke up really early. When I looked outside, I realized it was a good thing. I waited for just the right time to capture this beautiful winter sunrise.

This great blue heron was waiting for fish to swim by in a local pond.

When I photograph ocean waves, I like to wait until the very moment when the wave is about to break.

I’m not sure what this West African crane was waiting for, but it made it easy for me to take its picture.

This cute duck was patiently waiting for my kids to throw duck food in the water.

And this seagull was a freeloader waiting for a free meal at the same time.

    • Haha, no, we don’t have West African cranes in San Diego, although we have thousands of bird species, more than anywhere else in the country because of our variety of landscapes and the fact that many migratory birds come here for the winter. This guy was at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. They clip their wings so they can’t fly far. I love the hairdo, and you’re right, the sun light made its crown stand out.

  1. I love the crane too = but the sunrise is a very cool shot – and when I read how that photo came about – it because even more special – it was a good thing!

    • I don’t know why I manage to wake up early on the days I could sleep a little longer but I had to make the best of it when I saw that sunrise. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment.

  2. Love that crane! What a nice guy to stand so still for you. Your pictures are always amazing. I love my California calendar. That first picture on this post is my January picture here in my room.

I'd love to hear what you think about my photos. Please leave your comments below.
