WordPress weekly photo challenge: In the background

Today I’m participating in the WordPress weekly photo challenge and this week’s theme is “in the background”. You can click on any photo below to see it in a larger format.

Since a lot of my photos happen to be macros, or at least tend to focus on a single subject, I was tempted to skip this week’s WordPress photo challenge. But after going through my portfolio, I found a few photos that would be a great fit for this theme.

Like these photos of the moon in the background of the branches of a Sycamore tree.

Or this beautiful purple lavender you can see in the background, behind this orange pin cushion protea flower.

A Word A Week Challenge – Face

Today I’m participating in the A Word A Week Challenge. This week’s theme is “face”.  I encourage you to click on each photo to see a larger view. If you like what you see, please subscribe to this blog to receive updates of the new photos I post, usually 3 to 5 times a week.

Nature can display faces in so many ways and places. There’s the cute face of the mama panda bear.

There’s the face of the tiger longwing butterfly (Heliconius hecale) with his rolled-up proboscis.

There are the faces of two brother grizzly bears enjoying some intimate moment.

There are the faces of animals carved in the wood on purpose.

And the face of a woman that Mother Nature drew in this tree trunk for us to notice.

Mother Nature also likes to use rocks to make faces.

These hidden faces of a man and a dog (profile angle) are some of my favorite faces to spot in nature. Can you see them?

And finally even the sky can show you faces, like this smiley face in the clouds!

Pink water lilies

I recently got the opportunity to photograph more water lilies. I guess it’s full blooming season in San Diego right now. These water lilies ranged from very light to very bright pink.

Here’s a nice selection of these water lilies and lily pads. Remember you can click on each image to view a larger format. Enjoy!
