Fireworks Photography: Bursts of Color in Motion
This fireworks photography collection captures bursts of color and light in mid-air, celebrating the energy and spectacle of displays I’ve been lucky enough to see. Each shot aims to freeze a fleeting moment that’s usually gone in seconds, from the first spark to the final trail of light.
Fireworks are genuinely tricky to photograph well, the timing, the exposure, the unpredictability of each burst, but that challenge is part of what I love about it. I especially love going to a display and seeing a shape, color, or pattern I’ve never captured before. No two shows are ever quite the same.
That said, I’m aware fireworks come with a real cost to the natural world I photograph everywhere else on this site. The smoke and debris contribute to pollution, and the noise can seriously frighten pets and wildlife for hours afterward. I’m genuinely hopeful more towns move toward drone light shows instead, they’re quieter, cleaner, and honestly, some of what I’ve seen done with drones is just as stunning, if not more creative, than traditional fireworks. I’d love to see where that technology goes.
