Picking the right photo to use for the month of December in my 2013 photo calendar was quite a challenge. I wanted to have something that would illustrate the holidays and winter for most people, but it’s not an easy task when you live in warm and sunny San Diego, California.

After a few days shuffling a few photos around, I settled on the picture below. I actually took it this past June, while visiting Lake Hemet, California. The whole area, including the town of Idyllwild, features a large amount of trees, most of them pine trees. I love the smell of pine trees, and I really like the shape of pine cones too, so I was happy when I spotted these pines cones up the pine tree, surrounded with plenty of long and green pine needles. Don’t forget you can click on the photo for a larger view.

I have a good idea for a more snowy photo I can use in my 2014 photo calendar but I won’t know if I manage to snap that photo until we reach the rainy season and it snows in our local mountains. Yes, we do get snow in San Diego County in the winter if the weather cooperates! But you won’t see me playing it in because I hate the while stuff…

  1. Not a fan of the white stuff either, but in Ohio I can’t escape it. It doesn’t usually last too long though. Well, depending on the winter…

    Great photo!

    • Thanks! I physically can’t tolerate the cold and my body shuts down quickly. I know there’s a medical term for it, I just can’t remember it. I was miserable during very cold winters so I can’t complain about living here.

  2. I love every kind of evergreen! They make me happy. Good photo. I’m not a fan of the white stuff either (especially if I have to drive in it), but with how dry things have been up here this summer, I’m praying for many storms to fill up our lakes and reservoirs again.

    • We needs tons of rain here too, especially since last winter was dry and our summer was ridiculously hot. They’re predicting our first big rainstorm in about 6 months for tomorrow. I’m betting we’ll get about 3 drops if we’re lucky. It’s always like that.

    • Thanks for stopping by! I do have a giant pine cone from a Coulter pine tree and people always think it’s fake because it’s so huge (almost a foot tall and quite wide). I’ll head over your photo challenge right now.

I'd love to hear what you think about my photos. Please leave your comments below.
