Today I’m taking part in the Macro Monday photo challenge. If you like what you see, I encourage you to subscribe so you can enjoy the new photos I post a few times a week.
I got the opportunity to photograph a couple of black-crowned night heron herons up close during the holidays. These photos are not technically macro but I didn’t have to zoom in to be able to get these close shots. The lighting was less than perfect so this is the best I got that day. The funny thing is, both herons look like they only have one leg. They must do like flamingos and lift up a leg when they stand up somewhere for a while.

The subtle lighting framing these herons is enchanting. An interesting bird.
They sure are interesting looking. The lighting was quite a challenge in these shots, even with a flash.
SUPER!
Thank you.
I’ve never seen a green Heron before. Thanks for sharing these today!
You’re welcome. They’re pretty common around San Diego, anywhere near water.
Beautiful 🙂
Thank you very much!
Looks like you managed to get really close

Yes, no zoom for these pictures. It didn’t look very happy but it didn’t move, so I just kept taking pictures.
What a lovely bird!
Thank you!
Funny, how they seem to enjoy standing on one leg. I’ve never seen a green heron, either.
Oops, I just realized this is a black-crowned night heron, not a green heron! Argh, I’m going to have to change my post, haha! And it’s not the first time I’ve photographed this bird and featured it on my website, using the correct name. The one-legged thing sure caught my attention.
What a cool bird! Great shots you took of them Milka 🙂
Thank you very much!
Terrific shots of the B-c Night Heron!
Thank you very much for stopping by and taking the time to comment, Phil!
