Today I’m participating in Where’s My Backpack’s Travel Theme photo challenge. This week’s theme is “pink”. Remember you can click on each photo for a larger view. If you like what you see, feel free to subscribe and receive nature photography updates a few times a week.

Pink is one of my favorite colors, and the bolder, the better, especially when it comes to photographing it. I love the many different shades of pink that Mother Nature has come up with, from the light pink of this beautiful rose,

and this gentle light pink water lily,

to the ultra bold pink of this snapdragon flower.

If pink contains a little bit of orange, then it can be called coral pink, as beautifully displayed in this pink poppy flower.

Mother Nature can display several shades of pink right next to each other, for example in these lovely cherry blossoms,

or these pink manuka flowers.

Of course, pink doesn’t only occur among flowers in nature. If you’re lucky, you can witness pink in the sky, whether it is a pink sunrise,

or a pink sunset.

If you visit my blog regularly, you must know by now that purple is my favorite color to spot and photograph in nature. It doesn’t occur as often as you may think so it’s always a nice surprise to notice it. Here are a few selections of my recent sightings of purple while I was lucky enough to be holding a camera at that moment.

Here’s an interesting looking orchid, with several green and brown petals, and one large purple petal. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a flower with different colored petals before. Have you?

Aster flowers are some of my favorite, as they come in different shades of purple.

I love lavender: its purple color, its smell, its long-lasting blooms. The lavender blooms on the next photo belong to a larger species and they don’t smell, but they still look beautiful.

Here’s a little more purple lavender for you.

Purple can range for very light to very dark. Here is some dark purple on this white and purple pansy, covered with water droplets.

I’m saving my favorite purple for last, in this beautiful grape of wisteria blooms. I’ve noticed several wisteria trees blooming around San Diego. I think it’s time to grab my camera and try to get a few new shots.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: two colors or hues only

I realized it was quite a challenge to find photos that only showed two colors, and not three or more, but here’s a nice selection of my favorites, like this photo of a beautiful blue sky after the rain and a tree branch covered with leftover raindrops.

To continue with the water theme, here are some sea jellies lit up in blue in an aquarium, with the water as a black background.

I love to capture red and green on the same picture. These complementary colors are some of my favorite to see in nature, as on this Cotoneaster Lacteus bush in seeds.

Here’s another example to illustrate how well red and green go together on this passion flower in full bloom.

This cactus covered with many tiny yellow blooms is a great attraction for a busy bee looking to collect nectar and pollen.

Very close to the complementary red and green I shared above, here is a splash of pink and green with this beautiful pink powder puff flower.

Yellow and green aren’t complementary colors but I still like the way they look together with this yellow rose flower about to open.

Nature sure knows how to make good use of complementary colors everywhere, such as purple and yellow on this large lily flower.

Orange and blue are another set of complementary colors. Is there any better background than a bright blue sky for these orange maple leaves?

Finally, the good thing about white is that it goes well with almost any other color. I love the soft glow it emits when put against a green background. Enjoy this white rose covered with dew drops and a white powder puff bloom as my last two choices for this colorful theme.

A Word A Week Challenge – Atmospheric

Here are a few photos to illustrate my take on this atmospheric photo theme. Clouds have the ability to create a very distinctive mood, as they affect the natural lighting, both during the day and at night. I like how they can affect the light reflecting from the moon.

On a winter morning, the fog can create a strange atmosphere as it softens the light from the rising sun.

When rain clouds crawl over the hills, they can create a creepy atmosphere. They’re fascinating to watch, especially because they can crawl quite fast.

At the time I photographed these crawling clouds, I also noticed the eerie atmosphere created by the winter scene in the foreground. When I saw the “atmospheric” theme, this is the first photo that came to mind, and so I’m showcasing it last.

I took this first photo with my cell phone camera after my kids pointed out that the water puddle was in the shape of the United States. It’s not until I opened the image on my computer that I realized the water puddle even has the red, white and blue colors of the USA. I love the way it looks and I wish I had had my good camera with me at the time.

I’ve shared this other photo on my blog before but I think it fits the theme of juxtaposition perfectly. This is a photo of my car roof covered in water droplets with the blue sky and white clouds reflecting into it. Once again I only had my cell phone camera to capture the image but hey, that’s the magic of Photoshop.
