Sky Photography: Capturing the Colors and Shapes Overhead
Sunrises, sunsets, the moon, and the ever-changing colors overhead, these photos capture the sky in its most dramatic and peaceful moments. Every shot is drawn from my ongoing nature photography collection, taken wherever the light happened to be right.
Sky photography is one of my favorite subjects because the sky is never the same twice. Beyond sunrises and sunsets, I love photographing the moon in its many phases, and clouds in all their forms, the shapes, the patterns, the colors as light moves through them.
I’ve been looking for shapes in clouds since I was little, always finding something that looked like an animal, a face, or something else entirely. My head has pretty much always been in the clouds, and photographing them as an adult is just an extension of that same habit, except now I get to keep what I see (cell phone cameras are so handy to quickly capture a cloud shape I notice while out and about!).

These sky photos are taken throughout the day and across seasons, whenever the light or cloud shapes catch my eye. Sunrise and sunset are frequent favorites, since the colors can shift dramatically in just a few minutes, but daytime cloud formations and moon phases are captured as well.
