Yellow is definitely not my favorite color to wear but I find it beautiful in nature. It expresses energy and happiness anywhere you see it. Here are a few examples of my favorite yellows used by Mother Nature. Hopefully they can bring you a little ray of sunshine on this cold winter day.

For this theme, I thought I’d highlight some of the photos I featured recently on this photo blog.

There was one Nutall’s woodpecker, the first woodpecker I’ve ever photographed.

Here are a couple of colorful pansies to start with. Both pansy blooms were watered before I took these photos so you can still see a lot of water droplets on the petals.

This last flower is a gladiolus bloom reaching the end of its life. I chose a back-lit angle to capture the beautiful orange color through the sun light.

I hope these few flowers bring some color to your cold wintery day.

I’m glad a shadow photo theme is suddenly popping up because I’ve had a few photos I’ve kept on file just for the occasion. I took this photo of the shadow of a few tree branches several weeks ago, when fall started in San Diego. I like the pattern formed by the dead leaves on the ground, under the shadow.

I took the next two photos this past summer in the mountains. I thought the shadows from the ferns on the rock underneath looked like mini trees.

I took this last photo not too far from those ferns. I love the shadows on the rocks formed by the trees right above. They make for an interesting background for the flowers.

Celosia are ornamental plants in the amaranth family, Amaranthaceae. Their name is derived from the Greek word κηλος (kelos), which means burned. Celosia comes in a variety of colors, but when you spot the red, orange and yellow Celosia flowers, you can understand why their flame-like look earned them their name. I hope these Celosia blooms bring some color to your day. Enjoy!
