A lot of the photos I take tend to be close-ups so there’s either no beyond or it’s out of focus. I did go back through all the photos I’ve posted on this website so far and there actually are a few photos that feature an interesting beyond, so here we go!

Since I’m showcasing several photos of beyond, I’ve decided to use the gallery feature. You can click on any image to view all of them in a slideshow format. I’ve used these photos in previous posts so I’ve left the original captions. This way, if you’d like to view the original post, just search for the caption text in my website’s Search box.

I present you…. beyond!

It’s been quite an eventful year for me but besides the bad and the ugly, lots of good things have happened, including the launch of this photography website, and the launch of my online Zazzle store to sell photo products.

I took a lot of great photos this year and I displayed some of them on this site. I still have quite a number of photos to go through on my various SD cards but are several of my favorite photos for 2012. You can click on each photo for a larger view and find each photo in individual posts on this site by using the search tool. Enjoy and let me know what you think!

I love foggy mornings

I love foggy mornings and they happen quite often in San Diego between November and March. Sometimes the fog is so thick, you can barely the lights of the cars in front of you on the freeway. Other times the fog lifts up here and there and you can see the top of the hills wrapped up in it while you’re standing in full sun.

Yesterday morning was foggy and I decided to take a few photos to capture the moment, especially since the sun was trying so hard to pierce through it.

It started with a low and heavy fog by the San Diego River:

Then the fog started lifting up, being burned by a few rays of sunlight:

Finally the fog was on his way out, allowing the sun to spread a layer of gold on the yellow leaves of the many poplars by the San Diego River.

I love the beautiful shades of Fall, especially when the fog softly wraps them up in the early morning.

Do you like fog or would you rather do without it?

I’m participating in the LetsBeWild.com Wild Weekly Photo Challenge! This week’s Challenge is: Weather.

I live in San Diego, in Southern California. I enjoy beautiful weather probably two thirds of the year. The baking heat of the summer is the bad part, but the skies can still be beautiful. On many days, the weather looks like this. Not a single cloud in the bright blue sky.

On a cloudy day, which is a rare occasion, the skies will look like this. You can still find plenty of blue sky even when the weather isn’t so great.

On a rainy day, which is even rarer than a cloudy day, things get wet, but they still look pretty. Here’s a wet California lemon enjoying the precious rain. Yep, it’s the one I’m featuring in my 2013 photo calendar, which is now set up for sale by the way (I haven’t launched it officially yet, but it’s coming…).

And of course, after the rain comes more sun. Things may still be a little wet, but the blue sky we enjoy on most days doesn’t like to miss a beat. This is Southern California weather for you in a nutshell!

The face in the rock

I love looking at rocks, big and small, mountains and cliffs, and try to discover the hidden shapes within them. Some shapes are very obvious, others are harder to spot, even when you help people trying to see them.

Here’s a large boulder I found while enjoying a walk in Idyllwild County Park in the town of Idyllwild, California. To me, the hidden face in the rock is very obvious but I often wonder how many people walk by it and never notice it.

A few months ago, I was hiking in Mission Trails Regional Park in San Diego, California, when I looked up at the cliffs facing me on the side of the trail.

That’s when I spotted it. The hidden head profile in the rocks. It’s facing left, with its big nose and big brow. But then a friend of mine mentioned the dog. What dog, I asked? The one on the right of the face, he replied. Well, I’ll be damned, I did see the dog as clear as day after he mentioned it. And it’s cute too.

Take a look at this photo of the man’s hidden face and the dog’s hidden face and let me know if you spot them too.
