Yesterday morning I couldn’t help notice the beautiful morning dew as I was walking my kids to school. Unfortunately all I had at the time to capture it was my cell phone camera. Even though a couple of the photos looked pretty, I thought they didn’t do justice to what I was really seeing. So this morning I grabbed my good camera and looked around for some pretty displays of morning dew. I got many good shots and I decided to split them in a few posts, so they can each have the spotlight they deserve.

I love how tiny and numerous the morning dew droplets are, compared to the raindrops that are left after the rain. Sometimes they just seem to glitter with the morning sunlight.

I don’t know what type of flowers these small purple blooms are but the morning dew seem to turn them into a thing of beauty.

With afternoon temperatures of 93 degrees yesterday and flowers blooming everywhere, spring is definitely here in San Diego.

A few weeks ago I got the opportunity to photograph the many ornamental pear blossoms in San Diego’s Balboa Park. It was one of those perfect days to take photos: beautiful blue sky with just a few clouds, warm temperatures and a slight breeze. I shared a couple of photos in previous posts, but today I’m displaying the best shots I got on that day in one single post.

Enjoy and remember you can click on each photo for a larger view.

I think this is my favorite photo of the whole lot.

These pear blossoms have a pretty repulsive smell but bees seem to love it and were very busy collecting nectar.

Today I’m taking part in Macro Monday at Lisa’s Chaos. I decided to feature raindrops on leaves because we’ve have a lot of rain these past couple of weeks. They’re probably the last rainstorms we’ll get before late next fall, so I may as well embrace them.

Here are a few photos of raindrops on a rose tree with small leaves. I think I displayed one of these photos in a previous post, but I wanted to share a few more. Perfect for Macro Monday! Remember you can click on each photo to see it in a larger format.

This is probably my favorite photo. I love how the raindrops seem to line up on the edges of the leaves, with some larger drops to balance out the many tiny drops.

I took this photo the same day. It shows some of the same leaves but from another angle and with some other leaves below them.

Below is the same rose tree but after a different rainstorm, and different leaves. I love how the raindrops reflect so many things.

Sunday Post: Arrangement

Most of my photos have a nature theme and arrangement is not a main characteristic r of natural displays. I think randomness is what makes nature more attractive – it’s full of surprises. So I thought I’d try something different for this post by using the Russian nesting dolls my mom bought for me in Saint Petersburg a couple of years ago. What’s so special about them? There are 10 nesting dolls in all, quite a rare sight. The smallest one is the size of a grain of rice.

I worked on several arrangements for the photos below. It was a good math exercise and I think my favorite one is the spiral pattern. Can you think of  way I could have arranged the Russian dolls not shown below?

Playing with the moonlight

I’ve always found the moon an interesting subject to photograph. It can show up any time of the day or night, low on the horizon or high up in the sky. It’s a challenge to photograph with my point-and-shoot camera. I like its 12xoptical zoom but it can have a hard time focusing on the subject. And if I want to capture something else in front of it, I rarely get both subjects, near and far, with the right lighting or focus. So I use Photoshop to create the photo I really want by combining the two photos together: the one with the moon lighted and focused on just right, and the other with the foreground under the right light and sharp content.

Here are a few photos that were created this way. Remember you can click on each photo to see it in a larger format.

Unfortunately my camera is a little grainy in very low light but I still like how these two photos came out.

Somewhere the moon can be quite visible in the middle of the day if the light is just right. Here are a few photos capturing this phenomenon.
