Today I’m participating in the A Word A Week Challenge. This week’s theme is “violet”.  I encourage you to click on each photo to see a larger view. If you like what you see, please subscribe to this blog to receive updates of the new photos I post, usually 3 to 5 times a week.

Violet and purple are some of my most favorite colors and I love spotting them in nature, like these pretty violet wildflowers covered with the morning dew.

I still don’t know what these flowers are (they grow on a large bush) but I love their bold purple color.

In a few weeks, the wisteria trees will start blooming in San Diego. Love at all those shades of violet on each flower.

Violet can appear not only in flowers but in the sky too. On that day, the clouds and the sunlight created a pink and purple sunset worth photographing.

Today I’m taking part in Macro Monday at Lisa’s Chaos. I recently visited the San Diego Botanic Garden and got the opportunity to photograph a lot of blooms. Below are a couple of flowers I was able to capture on camera. The thing is, I have no idea what type of flowers they are, and they weren’t labeled. What can I say? I’m a photographer and clearly not an horticulturalist.

For each flower below, I’ll show you what the plant looks like, as well as a macro of the flower itself. If you know the name of these plants, please share your knowledge in the Comments section. Remember you can click on each photo for a larger view.

The first plant looks like a succulent but that’s how far I can go. That soft pink flower is very pretty.

The next flowers belong to some kind of shrub about six feet tall. There were a lot of bloom on that tree, here are just a few.

Here’s a close-up of one of the purple flowers. They don’t smell but they sure look nice.

San Diego County is home to many types of plants and flowers and Spring is the best season to spot colorful blooms. By the time June comes, everything turns to yellow and brown so you need to enjoy the blooms while they last. Lilac blooms are my favorite for sure (more lilac blooms here).

This past Spring, as I was hiking in a regional park called San Diego Mission Trails park, I noticed a beautiful purple flower on the side of the path. I kneeled down to take the photo below of this lupine plant. I call it the color purple.

“I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don’t notice it.”
