I recently toll a stroll in San Diego’s Balboa Park and ended up in the rose garden, where the roses were displaying their bright and colorful blooms one last time before the cooler season. It had rained the night before (yes, I said rain, in San Diego!) so the rose petals were covered with raindrops.

I hope you enjoy these bright pink and red roses on this Friday, especially if you live in a place where the flowers have now disappeared for the next few months.

I enjoy the many layers of petals on a rose, especially when the petals themselves are layered with dew drops or raindrops.

The orange protea pin cushion flower has a spectacular set of petals that go from layer to layer.

Macro Monday: Raindrops on yellow roses

Today I’m taking part in Macro Monday at Lisa’s Chaos. Remember you can click on each image to see it in a larger format.

Last week, it rained. For two days. On and off, but mostly on. You may think rain isn’t a big deal, but when you live in San Diego, rain in May is a rare occurrence. It will probably be the last rain we get until next November so I tried to enjoy every raindrop, even though I hate walking or driving in the rain.

After the rain stopped, I took a few photos of the leftover raindrops on yellow roses. It’s amazing how such big raindrops can remain attached to the rose petals, defying gravity.

I love the patterns these raindrops form on each rose petal.

This is the same yellow rose as above, but photographed from a different angle. It’s interesting to see how the raindrops reflect the light and surroundings differently.
