I enjoy the many layers of petals on a rose, especially when the petals themselves are layered with dew drops or raindrops.

The orange protea pin cushion flower has a spectacular set of petals that go from layer to layer.

I love the dripping layers of pine tree sap on the tree bark.

Just in time for the fall season, here’s some colorful sumac tree foliage. With a beautiful bright blue sky as the complimentary background, this photo is very multicolored.

I love the bright red berries of the Cotoneaster Lacteus contrasting with the bush’s green and crimson leaves.

This bright orange protea pincushion flower enjoys the company of purple lavender, green leafed trees and a California blue sky in the background.

I’m not sure what these flowers are called (some type of iceplant blooms) but I love how the petals change colors from one end to the other.

And now for the last photo, here are the coolest multicolored fireworks I saw this year for the 4th of July.

Today I’m participating in the WordPress weekly photo challenge and this week’s theme is “focus”. You can click on the photos below for a larger view. If you like what you see, feel free to subscribe and receive nature photography updates a few times a week.

I love the focus on this first picture, as it shows all the fuzz on a grass blade.

Raindrops are a great subject to focus on, on grass or on tree branches.

Flowers are another lovely subject to focus on, especially when they are as colorful as this orange protea pincushion flower against a complimentary colorful background.

Faraway objects can be a challenge to focus on but this almost full moon shot looks very sharp. So sharp you can see several moon craters.

Finally I took my first shot at photographing fireworks properly this summer. I had to focus on a very far distance to capture them sharp, like this multi-color firework, by far my favorite. You can see more photos of fireworks here and here.

A few weeks ago, I shared some of the photos I took of the Fourth of July fireworks. Today, I’d like to share a few more of my favorite. I’ve found out over the years it’s quite a challenge to photograph fireworks, but with the right camera settings and good timing, you can have some good results.

I’m pretty sure this next set of fireworks is supposed to represent the American flag: white stars on blue, and red and white stripes. Very cool.

This last photo is one of my favorite firework displays from that night. Just beautiful.
