This is the end of the blooming season for lilies and I was able to snap a few photos yesterday. Here’s a yellow lily from up close, including its pistils covered with pollen.

Today I’m participating in the WordPress weekly photo challenge and this week’s theme is “focus”. You can click on the photos below for a larger view. If you like what you see, feel free to subscribe and receive nature photography updates a few times a week.

I love the focus on this first picture, as it shows all the fuzz on a grass blade.

Raindrops are a great subject to focus on, on grass or on tree branches.

Flowers are another lovely subject to focus on, especially when they are as colorful as this orange protea pincushion flower against a complimentary colorful background.

Faraway objects can be a challenge to focus on but this almost full moon shot looks very sharp. So sharp you can see several moon craters.

Finally I took my first shot at photographing fireworks properly this summer. I had to focus on a very far distance to capture them sharp, like this multi-color firework, by far my favorite. You can see more photos of fireworks here and here.

Tuberous begonia – begonia tuberhybrida

I find begonias quite fascinating, with their many variations of leaves, stem lengths and blooms. Here are two different blooms of the tuberous begonia (begonia tuberhybrida). These are Picotee begonias, which means the petals are two-tone, with the edge of the petal a much darker color than the rest of it. Remember to click on each photo for a larger view. Enjoy!

Here’s a red passion flower. I found it so interesting looking, I had to take a few pictures of it.

When photographing a subject in nature, sometimes it’s hard to determine which angle or side looks best. So I often shoot it from a variety of angles and decide later on. I’m not always sure which photo I prefer in the end.

Here’s a beautiful orange rose shot from above.

I love seeing the color patterns on the petals but the side shot looks very nice too.

Even when I shoot from the side, I’m not always sure which side will look best, like with this lovely pink and yellow rose, with more yellow than rose on this first shot.

Finally this ornamental plum tree looks pretty from this angle, with its dark red leaves.

But when I photographed the plum tree from the other side, with the sun shining from the other side, the red leaves really ignited.
