Today I’m participating in the WordPress weekly photo challenge. This week’s theme is “lost in the details”. WordPress is asking photographers to capture details in their frames.

For this post, I’ll use some photos I’ve featured in other posts that show great detail. I’ll also use a few new photos I haven’t featured on this website yet.

If you like what you see, please don’t hesitate to subscribe to my photo blog and/or like my Facebook page. Remember you can click on any of the photos below to view them in a larger format.

Below is one of my newest favorite photos I took recently. It shows some leftover raindrops on new rose bush leaves. I love the various sizes of raindrops and how they catch the light.

San Diego’s Balboa Park recently featured a large display of ornamental pear blossoms. They looks beautiful as a whole, but I think they’re even prettier up close, when you can see the details of each flower. You can see more ornamental pear blossoms here.

I love the details of the petals on this white powder puff tree flower. You can see more white powder puff flowers here and some pink powder puff tree flowers here.

The next photo also shows a lot of details, not just of the cactus flowers, but of the bee itself. I love its fuzzy back.

The last photo is a close-up of a spider web made by grass spiders. I love the details of the dew drops on the spider web, which would look quite messy otherwise. You can view more dew on spiderwebs here.

The new WordPress weekly photo challenge theme is forward. I’m always looking forward to the next best photo opportunity, so I can display it here and on my online store. I’m so behind on uploading new photos to my store, and I’m looking forward to working on it over the next week or so. There are lots of good photos to add, that’s for sure.

Remember you can click on any of the photos below to see it in a larger format.

I’m always looking forward to exploring new hiking paths, and there are a lot of them in San Diego. Here’s one path in Mission Trails park I haven’t tried all the way yet.

Today, I’m looking forward to enjoying the cloudless blue sky, after three days of gray clouds, rain and hail.

I’m also looking forward to the raindrops helping my rose bush grow new rose buds for the spring.

Finally I’m looking forward to new strawberries this summer. That is, if I can get to them because the slugs and pill bugs do…

Lots of things to look forward to! What are you looking forward to on your end?

This week’s Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge theme is the colors of red, white, or red and white together. How about some hibiscus to illustrate this colorful theme?

Remember you can click on each image below for a larger view.  Here’s a beautiful red hibiscus flower to start with.

A white hibiscus flower is just as pretty, believe it or not. It even has a little pinkish red on it.

There’s also the beautiful ornamental pear blossoms of San Diego’s Balboa Park. They don’t smell good but they sure are pretty!

Now, if you’re looking for red and white on a single picture, take a peek at my budding strawberries. Amid the green and red leaves, you can find a few white strawberry blossoms.

Spring is almost here but Christmas wasn’t that long ago and ’tis the ultimate season for red and white!

February 14, 2013 update: I just found out I won the Let’s be Wild Audience Award for this photo challenge on Green! I want to thank everyone for their kind comments on my photos. This is the first time I’ve been recognized for my photo work, so this is a big deal for me. 🙂

I’m participating in the online adventure travel and photography magazine LetsBeWild.com’s Wild Weekly Photo Challenge for bloggers. This week’s Challenge is: Green.

You can click on the photos below for a larger view.

Green isn’t something you see a lot of in San Diego. The outdoor scenery is gray, brown and yellow most of the year. Still, you can be lucky and capture some green on camera, like that spring day when I stumbled upon this patch of surreal green at Dos Picos County Park. You can view more photos of Dos Picos County Park here, and here.

Green is the color of grass, even when it’s covered with dew and spiderwebs from grass spiders. You can view more photos of these spiderwebs with dew in this post.

I love the bold green on the plants below, even when covered with winter frost. You can view more photos of plants covered in frost here, here and here.

Even the rain can’t wash out the green of this tree branch. You can view more photos of raindrops on these tree branches here and here.

There’s plenty of green at the San Diego Botanic Garden, including on this beautiful topiary of a dancing couple. You can see more amazing topiary in this post.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Wood

This week’s Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge theme is wood. Last week’s Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge theme was water and I couldn’t stop thinking of the many photos I could sort through to select the final few.

This week’s wood theme was a little more challenging for me. I didn’t want to show you just trees, trees and more trees. Yes, I will display  a few trees below, but I also wanted to show you objects made out of wood. I hope you enjoy my selection of wood photos.

This HUGE wood sculpture is to welcome you to the small mountain town of Idyllwild in Southern California, about two hours north of San Diego. The man who created this sculpture for the town (apparently he wasn’t done with it when I snapped the photo) sells many other wood sculptures, mostly of wildlife. They’re just beautiful.

Here are two Stellar Jay birds perched on opposite branches of a pine tree. This photo was taken in Idyllwild too, where Stellar Jays are easy to spot.

When we stayed in Idyllwild the first time, we rented a dome house made entirely out of wood inside and out. Here’s a part of the interior walls and ceiling to show you what a dome house looks like. Pretty neat, huh?

I took the next photo on the Star of India ship at the San Diego Maritime Museum with my kids (working hard!). That ship was used in the movie Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World with Russell Crowe and it’s still an active ship to this day.

As for these last photos, let me tell you a funny story. I took them at Dos Picos State Park northeast of San Diego a couple of years ago and never used them for anything. But I still saved them on my computer, because I knew I would use them one day for sure. And now the day has come. I present you a pile of wood!
