Today I’m participating in the WordPress weekly photo challenge and this week’s theme is “curves”. Remember you can click on each image to see a larger view. If you like what you see, feel free to subscribe and receive nature photography updates a few times a week.

Nature is full of curves and I love capturing them on camera, including these giant fern fiddleheads.

I love the curves the pistils of this beautiful purple and yellow lily form.

Flower petals often display some type of curve. The petals of this yellow rose are a lovely example of curves.

Of course, roses are not the only flowers to display curves. Here are the fancy curves of an orange protea pin cushion flower.

Many types of fruit display beautiful curves, like this ripe yellow lemon ready to be picked from the tree.

As for animals, some of them can be pretty curvy, like these cute little seahorses with their curved tails and curved bellies.

Flamingos have such long necks they tend to walk around with them in a curved position. Check out the little duck at the bottom left, he’s got some curved neck going too!

Of course human beings can create a lot of curves too. Check out this beautiful chandelier in the lobby of the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego. It’s full of curves!

Today I’m participating in Where’s My Backpack’s Travel Theme photo challenge. This week’s theme is “light”. Enjoy my photos and remember you can click on each photo for a larger view.

When taking photos, light is your best friend. It can also be your best enemy. Capturing the light the right way can make for a good or a not so good picture. I love using sunlight as much as I can to compose my photos, for example with this lemon.

There’s the light of the morning sun.

And the light of the setting sun.

Of course, light isn’t always natural, and we’re surrounded by plenty of artificial light. Here’s plenty of light from this glass chandelier in the lobby of the Hotel Del Coronado in Coronado, California.

And then, there’s the moon. Of course, the moon doesn’t produce light but only reflects it, and a full moon can reflect a lot of light!

And is there any happier light than the one created by Christmas lights?

The new WordPress weekly photo challenge theme is forward. I’m always looking forward to the next best photo opportunity, so I can display it here and on my online store. I’m so behind on uploading new photos to my store, and I’m looking forward to working on it over the next week or so. There are lots of good photos to add, that’s for sure.

Remember you can click on any of the photos below to see it in a larger format.

I’m always looking forward to exploring new hiking paths, and there are a lot of them in San Diego. Here’s one path in Mission Trails park I haven’t tried all the way yet.

Today, I’m looking forward to enjoying the cloudless blue sky, after three days of gray clouds, rain and hail.

I’m also looking forward to the raindrops helping my rose bush grow new rose buds for the spring.

Sometimes I find it hard to believe that San Diego has been my home for a little over 15 years now. In a way, it feels like it wasn’t that long ago when I drove cross country from Connecticut to California. San Diego has grown on me as my new home over the years. Besides the worrisome wildfires, random earthquakes, and lack of greenery, there’s a lot to like about San Diego and its surroundings. San Diego is my home and here are a few things I enjoy about it. Remember you can click on each image to enjoy a larger view. San Diego is home to the big waves of the Pacific Ocean under a bright blue sky.

San Diego is home to a large agricultural community, including a lot of citrus (lemons and oranges, mostly).

San Diego is home to not just one single season year round, but also Fall and its bold colors.

San Diego can even be home to frost in the winter, especially inland. This is as much cold as I can take!

San Diego is home to beautiful sunrises, especially in the winter.

San Diego is also home to beautiful sunsets. This one is from Christmas evening 2012.

San Diego is home to hundreds, probably thousands of different species of animals and plants. It’s also home to the most amazing topiary I’ve ever seen (view more topiary at the San Diego Botanic Garden here).

And as of this week, San Diego is home to some beautiful pear blossoms in Balboa Park. You can view more photos of these pear blossoms in a post next week, so I invite you subscribe to this site if you haven’t already.
