I love asters because they seem so easy to grow and maintain, they just pop up in every public place. And what’s not to like about them? They’re not too big, not to small, and very colorful. To me, a bed of asters is always shouting, we’re happy today and you should be too!

Asters come in a variety of colors but my favorite is purple. Here’s a dark purple aster flower, followed by a light purple aster. Both flowers show leftover raindrops on their petals from the morning’s watering, a lovely touch left for me to capture on camera.

I took these photos of hibiscus flowers a few months ago at the end of spring. Now that I’m slowly going through the hundreds of pictures on my camera’s SD cards, I get to dig up a few older photos. I love photographing hibiscus blooms because they are so colorful but it can be a challenge to get them in the right angle and light. Most of the time, the photos I take of them are worthless, and sometimes I’m lucky.

Here’s a selection of pink hibiscus, pink and white hibiscus, and purple and light yellow hibiscus flowers. The first shot is the whole flower and the second shot is a close-up. I hope you enjoy these!

Sometimes I don’t have to go too far to enjoy the beauty that nature has to offer. Here are a few close-ups of the morning dew on the petals of a white rose in my garden, taken from a few different angles.

I ran across this shrub over the weekend and I had to take a few pictures of its very peculiar blooms. This is the hairpin banksia shrub, part of the protea family, originally from South Africa.

Take a closer look at the shrub’s blooms. I don’t even know if you could call them flowers. Aren’t they something?

Here’s an ever closer look at a hairpin banksia bloom. Nature sure had fun with this one!

Last weekend I took my kids to the small mountain town of Julian, California, about an hour east of San Diego. One of our activities there was to pick apples right off the tree. When I put the apples we brought back in the kitchen sink to wash them, I realized we had an unexpected guest. A cute red ladybug! So I took it outside and put it on my rose bush. I bet it wondered how it got there!
