Today I’m participating in Where’s My Backpack’s Travel Theme photo challenge. This week’s theme is “through”. Remember you can click on each photo for a larger view. If you like what you see, feel free to subscribe and receive nature photography updates a few times a week.

Let me take you on a tour through the forest, one of my favorite activities. Sometimes the trail going through is pretty narrow.

And sometimes it is quite wide.

Pine trees have so many thick branches that it can be hard to see the blue sky through them.

Pine tree sap is see through, although it tends to reflect a lot of its surroundings too.

Sometimes when you hike in a park, a river runs through it.

All the way through.

Forests are full of plants and animals, including insects. Insect wings are usually see through, including the wings of this blue dragonfly.

Today I’m participating in the WordPress weekly photo challenge and this week’s theme is “one shot, two ways”. You can click on the photos below for a larger view. If you like what you see, feel free to subscribe and receive nature photography updates a few times a week.

When photographing a subject in nature, sometimes it’s hard to determine which angle or side looks best. So I often shoot it from a variety of angles and decide later on. I’m not always sure which photo I prefer in the end.

Here’s a beautiful orange rose shot from above.

I love seeing the color patterns on the petals but the side shot looks very nice too.

Even when I shoot from the side, I’m not always sure which side will look best, like with this lovely pink and yellow rose, with more yellow than rose on this first shot.

Finally this ornamental plum tree looks pretty from this angle, with its dark red leaves.

But when I photographed the plum tree from the other side, with the sun shining from the other side, the red leaves really ignited.

Have you ever looked at pine tree bark up close? It’s quite an assortment of terrains.

And if you look even closer, the landscape of pine tree bark resembles a topographic map. I love the mix of patterns and colors that make up the pine tree bark.

Today I’m participating in Cee’s Which Way Challenge to show actual roads, bridges, walkways, tracks, etc, rather than the people on them. For this challenge, I decided to share two photos of trails I walked on recently. You can click on the images for a larger view.

Which way to go? Well, the way the sign says, of course!

I love walking through a forest of pine trees. The shade is welcome in the summer and the smell of pine tree sap and needles is invigorating.
