Today I’m participating in the WordPress weekly photo challenge and this week’s theme is “layers”. You can click on the photos below for a larger view.

If you like what you see, feel free to subscribe and receive nature photography updates a few times a week.

I enjoy the many layers of petals on a rose, especially when the petals themselves are layered with dew drops or raindrops.

The orange protea pin cushion flower has a spectacular set of petals that go from layer to layer.

I love the dripping layers of pine tree sap on the tree bark.

Floral Friday Fotos: light and dark purple asters

Zazzle online shop If you enjoy my photos and would like to purchase some, I want to thank you! Simply visit my Zazzle online shop and browse the product offerings. If there’s a photo you would like to purchase but don’t see it in my shop, please contact me by using the Contact form at the bottom of my home page and let me know which photos you are interested in purchasing, and in what format / medium.

Today I’m participating in Floral Friday Fotos. Remember you can click on the photo below to see them in a larger format.

If you enjoy my images, I encourage you to subscribe and receive updates when I post new photos, usually 3 to 5 times a week.

I love asters because they seem so easy to grow and maintain, they just pop up in every public place. And what’s not to like about them? They’re not too big, not to small, and very colorful. To me, a bed of asters is always shouting, we’re happy today and you should be too!

Asters come in a variety of colors but my favorite is purple. Here’s a dark purple aster flower, followed by a light purple aster. Both flowers show leftover raindrops on their petals from the morning’s watering, a lovely touch left for me to capture on camera.

Travel theme: Delicate

Zazzle online shop If you enjoy my photos and would like to purchase some, I want to thank you! Simply visit my Zazzle online shop and browse the product offerings. If there’s a photo you would like to purchase but don’t see it in my shop, please contact me by using the Contact form at the bottom of my home page and let me know which photos you are interested in purchasing, and in what format / medium.

Today I’m participating in Where’s My Backpack’s Travel Theme photo challenge. This week’s theme is “delicate”. Remember you can click on each photo for a larger view.

If you like what you see, feel free to subscribe and receive nature photography updates a few times a week.

To me, there’s nothing more delicate than water a few drops at a time. Have you ever come close to rain drops or dew drops? You barely touch them or breathe too hard close to them and they fall and are gone in an instant (not so fun when you’re trying to photograph them). Here are a few examples of water in its most delicate form.

Here’s a single rain drop still standing on this grass blade. Tiny droplets also show the fuzzy texture of the grass.

I love the delicate patterns that raindrops can make on leaves after the rain.

How about these dew drops on a spider web created by a grass spider? My kid stepped on this spider web right after I snapped a few pictures.

Is there anything more delicate than dew drops on rose petals?

And how about frost? We get some frost in the winter in San Diego but it comes in very delicate layers of ice crystals. As soon as the sun comes out and starting warming up the earth, the delicate frost is gone.
