Today I’m participating in the WordPress weekly photo challenge and this week’s theme is “eerie”. You can click on the photos below for a larger view.

These rain clouds creeping and crawling over the hills of San Diego during a winter storm always look eerie.

The landscape in front of those hills was just as eerie looking as the clouds on that day – out of this world.

There’s something quite eerie about fog, don’t you think?

Especially when the fog is very thick and you can barely see a few feet away.

I love the eerie effect of a full moon creeping out from between the clouds. Can you hear the coyotes howl?

Today I’m taking part in the photo challenge called Festival of Leaves (this is week 4). You can view my contribution to week 1 and week 2. You can click on each photo for a larger view. If you like what you see, I encourage you to subscribe so you can enjoy the new photos I post a few times a week.

Unlike the East Coast, it’s a challenge to see some colorful fall foliage in the San Diego area. After all, most of our landscape is covered with chaparral, California sage brush, a variety of grasses and tons of cacti. So you can imagine my pleasant surprise when I happened to drive right by this beautiful maple tree during a recent day trip to the mountain town of Julian, California, about an hour away from San Diego.

It was standing tall and proud in someone’s large front yard. I can’t imagine how ecstatic those people must be every fall when the leaves of their tree start turning. Here’s a closer look at these beautiful leaves. By the way, it was an absolutely beautiful day after the very windy Santa Ana winds died down.

Here are a few more maple leaves with the sunlight shining the other way. They almost look golden there.

Help me pick photos for my 2014 calendar on bees and bugs

If there’s a photo you would like to purchase but don’t see it in my shop, please contact me by using the Contact form at the bottom of my home page and let me know which photos you are interested in purchasing, and in what format / medium.

Today, I’m asking your feedback on photos I’d like to include in my 2014 calendar on bees and bugs. Just tell me which ones you’d really want to see, and which ones I should definitely keep or get rid of. I appreciate your honest feedback.

Remember that everyone who comments on one of my 2014 photo calendar related posts will be entered in a drawing to win one of my calendars (you can pick your favorite theme). The only requirement I have for the winner is to be located within the U.S., mostly because the calendar will contain U.S. holidays and it will be more helpful to that person. For every calendar post that you comment on, you will earn one drawing entry (one entry per blog post, not per comment). I’m planning to give away one calendar to a lucky winner, and possibly another one to the person who comes in second, depending on the number of participants.

You can click on any photo below to open the slideshow and view everything in a larger format. Please include your comments into the post comment section directly, not on individual photos, to make it easier for everyone to see your feedback. Thank you!

If you need a little splash of color today, I have just the thing for you – a bright yellow sunflower I photographed at a local pumpkin patch earlier this week.

I love how the center of the sunflower expands as the sunflower seeds grow inside of it.

It’s amazing how large the center grows as the seeds develop.

There are several photos in this gallery I’ve never featured on this website before, so I hope you notice them as nice additions. Finally, I know one of these photos is a lotus and not a water lily, so I’d like your opinion on including it in the calendar or not.
