I love pine trees. I love their many varieties, their fragrance, their height and the way their branches stretch out as far as they can. I got to enjoy a lot of pine trees last week and for the first time, I took a closer look at their trunks. As I tried to photograph the many patterns of their bark while at a park, I noticed many trees had sap dripping out of their bark. And that sap itself was worth taking pictures. Here are a few photos of pine tree sap I had time to sort out. I have way more photos to go through, so I hope to do more posts on this in the near future. I hope you enjoy these few photos to start with.

The first thing I noticed when photographing pine tree sap is, it often comes with bugs that are stuck in there. The second thing I noticed is, if you photograph it from the right angle, you’ll see plenty of reflections in it.

Tree sap comes in all shapes and sizes. Check out this long hanging sap, as well as the small hook that’s attached to the tree trunk. How cool is that?

Tree sap can also comes in different colors, depending on the color of the bark on the trunk. Check out this mix of light yellow and red tree sap.

Of course, tree sap can just drop and harden in drop shapes, but even then, you can see some patterns inside each drop. Lovely.

Since a lot of my photos happen to be macros, or at least tend to focus on a single subject, I was tempted to skip this week’s WordPress photo challenge. But after going through my portfolio, I found a few photos that would be a great fit for this theme.

Let’s Be Wild Weekly Photo Challenge – Scent of Ramona lilac blossoms

The color purple: the beautiful blooms of the Ramona lilacs

Well, it’s taken me a while but I finally did it! I went through all the photos I took of the Ramona lilacs in bloom during my latest visit at Dos Picos County Park in Ramona, California. I ended with a few good photos I’m sharing below in a gallery format.

Ramona lilacs are different from the regular lilac trees you’re probably used to. The flowers are a lot smaller and much less fragrant, but just as beautiful. You can see on some photos that the trees are completely covered with clusters of purple flowers. The flowers actually look blue when they are unopened. As they open they get dark purple and when they’re open completely, they’re more of a light purple. This gives each tree a unique look and color. That’s why each cluster looks different on the photos.

Macro Monday: Succulent with pink flower blooms

Macro Monday: the flowers with no name

Today I’m taking part in Macro Monday at Lisa’s Chaos. I recently visited the San Diego Botanic Garden and got the opportunity to photograph a lot of blooms. Below are a couple of flowers I was able to capture on camera. The thing is, I have no idea what type of flowers they are, and they weren’t labeled. What can I say? I’m a photographer and clearly not an horticulturalist.

For each flower below, I’ll show you what the plant looks like, as well as a macro of the flower itself. If you know the name of these plants, please share your knowledge in the Comments section. Remember you can click on each photo for a larger view.

The first plant looks like a succulent but that’s how far I can go. That soft pink flower is very pretty.
